Register now for the Open-Air Film Fest Weiterstadt, less a German Tropfest, more a German Woodstock of film. This is the 33rd Open Air Filmfest of Weiterstadt, the festival screens "mainly short films of all genres, formats, and lenghts, but also long feature films and documentaries". There is no cost involved in submitting your film apart from what you pay at the post office to send it across.
They are after interesting narratives, not the "we've seen that a thousand times before" kind of films, and the festival includes bands, VeeJays, and various workshops in the great German outdoors. Deadline is May 15th 2009.
Weiterstadt is a town in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district in Hesse, Germany.
I found one picture of the town of Weiterstadt which I have pasted below.
The Open-Air Filmfest Weiterstadt has a long history. Begun in 1977 (A year after I was born), the festival initially was to be held in the Koki cinema, but the three spectators who had turned up found the cinema to be too stuffy in the hot weather so a projector was erected on top of a van which screened Pink Floyd's Live in Pompeji although some handmade 8mm films were screened beforehand. The film festival only ran for one day.
In 1978 it managed to run for 2 days, and 1979 it went for 4 days, so began the growth of the Open-Air Filmfest Weiterstadt.
